THE RIO GRANDE FORT COLLINS
For the Fort Collins location, Shike Design focused on reclaimed materials and timeless design. The 30-year-old space had survived a kitchen fire, leaving smoke and water damage throughout the two-story building. The client embraced the chance to modernize the flow and aesthetic while honoring the restaurant’s history.
Artifacts collected over decades were repurposed as iconic features, including New Orleans street lamps and hand-forged railings from Denver’s historic 15th Street viaduct. These elements now define the entry, bar, and dining areas with dramatic overhead details.
Reclaimed railroad timbers form bar-back shelving and architectural surrounds, while white walls, black paneling, and white oak floors brighten the space. Material and pattern accents drawn from the new Denver design complete the update, blending rustic character with modern finishes.
As a Denver restaurant designer, Shike Design reimagined The Rio Fort Collins with a design that respects its legacy while creating a fresh, welcoming dining experience.
